Addie is an engaging protagonist. Her thoughts are jumbled at times and she's hard on herself, but this makes sense at her age and in her situation. Her relationship with her childhood rival, Seth, is believable. I could really see the love between them, even when they couldn't. I like that Seth is so thoughtful and considerate toward Addie and that they work well as a team.
The murder mystery plot is fairly straightforward. There are enough clues to make connections and predictions, while still throwing in enough false leads and distractions for the reveal to not be completely obvious. Addie's stress and lack of confidence adds to the mystery.
The fast paced action at the climax is well done, with just the right amount of tension and sense of danger. The love confession is sweet.
I think this book would make a good read for young fans of murder mystery, especially those that like a compelling romantic subplot.
