Third read - 8/4/21:

I do not claim my last review I’m actually completely fine with the pacing and the way it was condensed. The cave rescue plot is simply a backdrop to their friendships and Adam and the others reckoning with the idea of being known and seen and opening themselves up to support and love.

Second read - 5/22/19: Oh my gosh I forgot how intense the last 100 or so pages are. Adam's development in this book is superb. My one issue, and it's small enough that it doesn't diminish my 5 star rating is
when everyone goes into the cave to find Maura, Gansey and Adam are stuck while Ronan and Blue get through. Blue is able to make it across the lake and finds Maura, and asks Ronan if he's able to go back the way he came. He is, and so he presumably returns to Gansey and Adam. The thing is, how could he get through if Gansey and Adam couldn't? I would have loved to read how Ronan got back to Gansey and Adam and/or how they were feeling about the situation, but we didn't get any check-in at all! We just read that Blue, Mr. Gray, and Maura make their way out of the cave, without any description, even though it's a different way than they came. The next chapter just cuts to one week later, everything having worked itself out all nicely.
Honestly? The wrapping up of it felt a little lazy. Not to mention there were a few typos in the book. On second thought, my rating might be lowered to 4.5 stars. . .

First read - 9/15/18: This series ends books how a series is supposed to---not with a major cliffhanger, nor with a perfectly satisfying ending, but instead with the main plot of this book wrapped up but the overarching plot still unresolved, as well as a teaser for the main plot of the next book.
