Parts of this book were very very good. Ian McEwan can draw brilliant characters for us, make them come alive and immerse us in their lives. Other parts for me were too much ‘Ian McEwan’ the intellectual, for example, when his main character is talking about politics all I could hear was his voice rather than Roland’s. Overall it’s a fantastic book.
