True Grit by Charles Portis
4.0

This story is all about the voice. Mattie - our fourteen year old narrator - is unemotional, all business, prim and determined. She’s telling the story from later in life, so there’s a certain remove, but no wistfulness. It’s so deadpan at times that it’s funny, or outrageous, but always entertaining.

I started with the audiobook, but struggled and switched to print.
