I usually love Jodi’s books, but this was such a disaster. Every brown or black character is written in heavy negative stereotypes. Writing about the Hopi woman and people in the way she did was disappointing and disrespectful.
Yt authors need to stop using racial slurs in their writing - it gives off the biggest ICK. Stop.
The plot line with Andrew was absolutely ridiculous. He kidnaps his daughter to give her a better life - a loving and wholesome one, only to get caught for it as a grandpa and becomes “prison mike” from The Office in the county jail???? It was so much cringe. I’m honestly surprised I finished it.
