Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa

3.0

This is a very sweet book that was emotional and moving.

However it fell flat just a little bit for me as it didnt go as in depth into things as i would like. I am not used to reading short books so maybe thats the problem but i would have wished the the MMC and the girl's character and background was explored a bit more, as it was very much focused on the old woman.

I predicted the ending from a mile away however it was done in a way that was touching, and spoke about important messages such as your life isnt valued by how much work you do for society, and how the old woman came to view the way her life turned out in a positive light.

Like i said before i do wish MMC and the girl did get more wrapped up endings but i understand why they didnt as they have so much more of life to live so it would be unrealistic for them to have it all figuired out by the end of the book. But it would have been nice to have a scene where the MMC creates the cherry blossom tea with the old woman's cooking utensils, and him and the school girl have a special memorial for the old woman of their own.  But i appreciate the ending nonetheless
