Well, it’s been a while since I wrote a review for a One Piece volume but here I am now, finally rereading these chapters from months ago. Anyway, these were some good chapters let me tell you. I feel like this volume specifically is the climax of Egghead, at least for me.
So the volume starts with the end of the Kuma flashback and I really love it. It’s so heartbreaking and emotional how Bonney was left all alone and how those government agents refused to give her Kuma’s letters and how they were keeping her in the church even though she was actually healed. And then when Bonney became a pirate he kept watching her from afar and even though he couldn’t be with her he was checking on her. It’s just really cute and I love Kuma. Not to mention finally learning why he helped the Straw-hats in Sabaody and the Thriller Bark fiasco. He’s a great character and he deserved more happiness than what he got.
And then in the real time… god you can’t imagine how happy I was when Kuma came to save Bonney from Saturn and the way she cried when that happened. And how this man pulled her close to him… chills. I just really love Kuma fighting for the sake of his daughter even though he’s about to get killed by this dirty old spider (also my man Sanji helped save him and Bonney and Vegapunk so that’s just a nice bonus). Oh and of course the main thing I need to mention is Vegapunk giving Bonney absolute power over the pacifista because he didn’t want her getting killed by her father. It’s beautiful and I respect Vegapunk for doing it so much.
Anyway, on the other hand we have the crew trying to get off the island and it’s also great. I love how they literally sent Jinbe to get Zoro just because they didn’t want him getting lost. And then this dude absolutely demolishes Gucci and it’s so good and I love it. And then the giants come and it’s my favorite day ever because that means were going to Elbaf and I need that for my boy Usopp.
And then at the end all the other elders come and it’s okay, although the best part’s still coming as these elders are not actually fighting Straw-hats (except for Saturn of course). Also also Vegapunk is about to tell the history of the world so that’s exciting.
Overall, this is a great volume that concludes some things and sets up some others but it also has a great emotional impact so I’m giving it 5 stars. I can’t wait for the next arc and to see how Egghead concludes.
