This book rocks. Badass characters doing badass stuff in a deeply built, complex world. I almost wanted a study guide/ family trees / maps of the beacon systems, but most of the time I muddled through along for the ride. It starts slow, with lots of characters, but ramps quickly and is nonstop action through the end. The introduction of riders halfway through was a twist on the setting, and an eerie addition. Can’t wait for the second and third!
Minus half a star for not very much humor, but there’s enough, and the characters are all pretty distinct. Sun herself is a bit enigmatic and hard to connect with, but the other POVs more than make up for it, and her aloofness is by design. Excited to have discovered this author.
