Would give this 4.5 stars. The characters are so alive and come right off the page, every chapter is so emotionally captivating, and the world is clearly well thought out and thought provoking.
I only take off half a star because it is so clear that this was meant to be a series; plot points are begun and left unfinished, there are stories and backgrounds that I feel were supposed to have more time to be explored, and the ending felt like it wasn’t really over. Regardless, a very enjoyable and complex read.
