I liked the premise of this book. The author, I think, captured the feel of being young and fighting life's changes, almost like you never want to grow up. I just wish the author would have had a little more character growth or I mean more details with their growth. I think the characters could have stood out and could have really shown what it is like to feel young and no control over the changes that occur. The ending felt rushed and while I understand how one traumatic moment can literally change you forever, I just felt like the author could have explained the feelings with more depth and acknowledgement over it. All and all I liked it with a few things that annoyed me, like difference in cultural languages, using specific words that someone like ZZ from her neighborhood would not have used, it felt out of place. The author could have visited and stayed in any of the 5 boroughs and picked up what REALLY would have been said vs what she thinks someone ZZ's age would have said. They all have different languages and slang and ZZ was not really saying anything that showed her Bushwick/Dominican/Puerto Rican roots.
