I slogged through over 400 pages of this book and ultimately decided that I didn't want to finish it. I love Franzen's use of language, which is incisive and insightful, colorful and creative. But the characters in this book were utterly unrelatable and depressing. The plot moved at a glacial pace. I thought his book Freedom better captured the uniqueness of his writing with a more interesting storyline, albeit still with a rather uninspiring family saga. I have Crossroads in my to-read pile, but it's definitely going down towards the bottom after reading The Corrections
