The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

4.0

I have slightly mixed opinions on this book. On one hand, the most important lesson I could gather from the entire story is that sometimes one just needs to take a step back from matters of consequence and appreciate the little things and bits of life. Matters of importance are always going to preoccupy the mind, and it's the little things that ultimately provide whatever joy it is that we get from life. We can run behind matters of consequence all we want, and we'll just end up chasing our tails all our lives, without being recipients of any true form of contentment and appreciation for things. We're always going to be behind the next big important matter of consequence. Being self-aware of what really matters, is what I gauge to be the right lesson from this book. Yes, a lesson - 'cause I do think the intent of the writer was to convey one big lesson masked in the depths of multiple tiny lessons.

On the other hand, the story does dismiss any lack of imagination as an adult-thing - which I am not fully onboard with. The writer does not shove any of his beliefs but rather drip-feeds them through various mini-stories within the book.

The drawings were a nice touch, to depict the writer's opinions of how much he is a fan of non-adult things
