Good Girl Complex
by Elle Kennedy
This was a cute, quick read.
I really did enjoy Mackenzie and Cooper as a couple. They brought out the best in each other and had such intense chemistry. I got through the book rather quickly simply because I had to know what happened and how their relationship was developing.
The first half of the book reeled me in the second half did lose me a little however. Dont get me wrong I was all for Mackenzie and Cooper scenes, every one had me smiling at something and I liked seeing Cooper's friends accept her. Mackenzie was standing up for herself and fighting for what she wanted which was so amazing to see but I felt like there was a lot going on for no reason.
Cooper's mum coming back, the money getting taken, the random arguments over tiny things all just felt a little out of place. Like they were put in to make the book longer but weren't needed for the plot.
The ending also felt very rushed to me. Mackenzie doesn't find out the truth until around 90% of the way through the book. I wasn't a fan of the way she found out. Especially since Heidi spoke so cruelly about her behind her back and then the next chapter we were made to feel sorry for her??
After the truth came out it felt like Cooper wasn't doing enough to try and explain or win her over. He mentioned sending gifts but we never actually saw him do anything.
The chapters were filled with other parts of the story rather than the rebuilding of the relationship which is what I wanted. Considering the extent of the lie Cooper told and how horrible his initial plan was I expected more. But his grovelling felt basic.
He put a paragraph on her website and got some chairs and she forgave him. Like what?? I can't imagine anyone in that situation giving in so easily. Even though she truly loved it him, it would be hard to trust him after that, and he didnt really do anything to gain it back.
It was like the way they made up every other time they argued even though this fight was so much bigger. And then the books ends. After his big "grand gesture" that's it. No epilogue or anything. Felt like I wasn't really getting closure which was why I could only give it 3 stars. Felt like it was unfinished.
I would recommend because I did really like the couple but be warned the ending leaves a lot to be desired.
