In the Wild Light by Jeff Zentner
5.0

We have a month left in the year, but I think it is safe to call this my favorite book of the year. At nearly 400 pages, I read the whole book in one sitting and had to bite back tears from sobbing on an airplane during the last section. Every character in this book was complex and nuanced. I wanted so badly for Cash to find comfort, happiness, and acceptance in his own identity and with the situation life dealt him. Both of the two major settings were carefully and beautifully drawn, allowing me to experience these two complicated environments. This book is a study in friendship, family, grief, understanding, growth - essentially the perfect coming-of-age novel - and I will be recommending it to everyone I know.
