The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu

Review:

I loved this book so much! When I first started reading it, it started off really intense and within the first few chapters there was already a lot going on and just so much to unpack that it took a bit to fully grasp what was happening. In fact, we don’t really fully understand what’s going on until the end of the book when finally grasp how catastrophic this whole situation is. We follow 2 main characters, in the past we follow Ye Wenjie a astrophysicist who’s father was murdered before her very eyes and had a lasting traumatic impact on her life. In the present we follow Wang, a nano technology researcher who works with a powerful particle collider. As the story unfolds, we learn new information with at the same rate as our main characters. There’s this constant mystery throughout the whole book, “what is going on? Why are physics failing? Where does this video game fall into the plot? What’s the importance of the three body problem and this other world within the game?” And as everything unravels bit by bit is just so entertaining. Your constantly immersed in this world and you can’t help but want to think like a scientist to help you figure out what is going on. Not to mention, there’s this social commentary going throughout the whole story that talks about humans and how quickly our species has excelled when it comes to scientific discoveries and whether or not it’s a good thing. How humans are constantly endangering species and how we are in the age of extinction because our discoveries have led to catastrophes for many species on the planet. So are humans truly evil or do we deserve another chance? Are we getting better as a species or worse? This book leaves you pondering these questions. The writing was also amazing! The explanations behind some of the science was easy to grasp and there was some quotes, especially the one at the end that literally gave me chills down my spine! It’s one of those lines that are just memorable, like those iconic lines in a movie. 5 OUT OF 5 STARS! WHAT AN AMAZING READ TO KICK OFF 2024 WITH!!!
