If you’re causally interested in learning about what’s up with this Oppenheimer guy, this may not be the book for you. Bird and Sherwin do a good job transporting the reader to Oppenheimer’s life and times, but often they get lost in the weeds trying to provide THE definitive text on his left wing past and subsequent McCarthy era downfall.

If you’re a Los Alamos Fan and have done some reading on the subject, this book will fill in a lot of those gaps. But again, get ready for a lot of names and a lot of perspectives on minute details of his security clearance case.
