Sad Cypress by Agatha Christie

5.0

This just may be my favourite Agatha Christie so far. Honestly I was hooked and kept guessing ‘til the end. It was a slightly different reveal to the classic Poirot, but I loved how this one was exposed.

I don’t want to spoil it too much, but the classic English country dynamic and wealth mixed with family mysteries kept me intrigued. The characters felt so real and who I believed and liked kept changing page-by-page, which made this such a page turner.

Poirot was less consequential in this story than he usually is, which felt a little strange at time. I then found out that Christie actually thought for years that this one would have been better without him… For those who are diehard Hercule fans though, he definitely doesn’t take anything away from this mystery!
