Yet another beautiful and moving romance from Erin Langston. I absolutely fell in love with her writing after reading Forever Your Rogue this year, which I gave 6 stars. She is fast becoming one of my favorite new historical romance authors. She is just able to write a book that is filled with longing and just the right amount of angst where I truly feel the characters connection. Her books are just special, and I honestly feel she builds a deeper romance that is just currently missing in historical fiction.
This book had such a unique setup for a historical romance, and i really appreciated the print shop setting. I loved that this featured an American working-class hero. Ethan Fletcher has just arrived in England to run a print shop he inherited, but he quickly learns he also inherited a large debt he must pay off in a short amount of time in order to keep it. He has a run-in with Belle Sinclair, daughter to Judge Gavin Sinclair, and he learns she has written a crime mystery novel based on true crimes from her father's courtroom. However, she can not get anyone to publish her book. They come up with a plan to serialize her book into Penny Blood's, which we now know as Penny Dreadful's, since they are cheaper to buy and can sell out quickly. They have a limited time to make this a success to save his print shop, so they are working very closely together on a daily basis.
I loved the tension and longing that was built while they were in such close quarters. All the slight touches and longing glances were killing me. They were both pining for each other hard, and I could feel their chemistry. One of my favorite scenes was when Ethan takes care of her during her migraine....swoon. As someone who suffers from severe migraines, let me just say this was so moving and sweet. It was everything! They had such amazing communication and were always 100% honest with each other. There was no miscommunication or games between these two. They truly respected each other and did whatever was required to support their dreams.
I had a wonderful time with this book and would definitely recommend you pick up Erin Langston if you haven't already. I have to say I loved seeing Cora, Nate, and their children in this book from Forever Your Rogue.
