Facing the Sun
by Janice Lynn Mather
I wanted to love this book but it wasn't the meaningful read that it could've been.
A story about 4 young women and how their proximity to each other weaves them altogether in interesting ways. Through each character we explore various themes: coming-of-age, consent, women’s health, parenthood, and relationship issues. Set against the backdrop of a huge developer destroying their public beach in the Bahamas, the story had so much potential to draw the reader in.
But sadly there was too much jumping between the characters and not enough depth to grab on to in the beginning. I struggled a bit to figure out who was whom and how they related to each other.
I wouldn't say it was a bad read, it was just confusing. Not the ideal read for while I was on holiday.
