Unhinged is the nice way of saying how truly insane this book was from start to finish. Set in the family house and scene of one of the most infamous cases of murder in the last 40 odd years this book makes you the detective behind a murder mystery dinner party set in solving this cold case that has confused police since it happened in 1974. Your host is the suspected offenders son, and every guest besides yourself may either be a suspect or central to the original investigation and all the evidence that came along with it.

The writing itself is somewhat of a labrynth, sometimes twisted and confusing and often at times turning back on itself which can be confusing to follow, while the overall story is interesting and so unique it was at times hard to follow and was not particularly helped by potential hallucinations, psychotic spells and missing blocks of time for the embodied detective in the story.

Ultimately, I think this is a unique read and could certainly contribute to shaping the mystery genre as we know it as it forces you to truly consider the evidence provided and not just the characters but there was something missing for it to become a personal favourite.
