The Bribe by Devney Perry, Willa Nash
3.0

This was my first book by Willa Nash/Devney Perry and I thought it was okay? It was a sweet, low angst, low drama romance set in a small town between a Grammy award-winning country singer and small-town sheriff. Would I say it's particularly memorable? Not really... But I enjoyed it and it was an easy/fast read, plus, I had a good enough time with it to want to at least read the next book in the series.

Their first meet-cute was unexpected and already hinted at strong sparks between the two and their second meet-cute was a little awkward and led to misformed conceptions about each other, but their romance progressed rapidly after that and veered into instalove territory. I liked that they didn't play around with their feelings and I always enjoy seeing couples do everyday couple things and they did fall into regular comfortable habits quickly. It was a little steamy with two open-door 'explicit' scenes but nothing too wild. Duke was a bit of He's a bit of an alpha but he was a sweet hero who was protective and loyal to those he cares deeply about. I liked his relationship with Travis (unconventional "single dad" vibes here!) and I loved how important it was for him and Lucy to have Travis accept her and develop a good relationship with her. Lucy's situation was tense and I could feel her fear and anxiety around the situation but I applauded her for picking up her life and starting completely fresh—Montana really suited her and I'm glad that she found her happiness there with Duke. I loved her friendship with Everly and I'm curious about her story and particularly who her story is supposed to be with so I'm looking forward to checking it out at some point.

There was a subplot introduced that I'm sure will be brought up in Everly's story because it has to do with the hero of The Bluff (small-town fake dating/marriage of convenience? yes, pls), and I'm really curious to see how it plays out but I hope it'll be a happy ending!
