Heartless Sky by Susanne Valenti, Caroline Peckham

This book was where everything finally came together. It was where some of the slow burns found its end; it was where puzzle pieces clicked together to make everything whole - and yet it was also when everything ripped apart again. As per usual, if I learned one thing about ZA, it is that the characters are just simply not allowed to catch a fucking break. And I am, quite frankly, here for that.

Let's be real: this book was smut-heavy, which I did not mind at all because it simply made sense after such long times of just building and building and building tension until it finally snapped. And I loved it. I loved it because, for once, most of the book was happy. With some hiccups, of course, but the overall thing was just everyone kind of finding peace in their situation, and it was amazing to read because we got more from the side characters again, which I always love because I do adore them. Most of them.

It was fun and laughter, gut-wrenchingly beautiful with lyrical love confessions, and still hauntingly dark because it was clear there was no permanent happiness in it for them. Yet. Hopefully.

So, while it is definitely not the best book I have ever read, I still decided to give it 5 stars. This series dragged me out of a nearing reading slump again and I just binged those 900 pages in what felt like 3 days. And they didn't feel like 900 pages, to be honest.

Zodiac Academy is my roman empire and I will die on that hill. It's okay that not everyone likes it, that many find it cringey or just too much - but I just find a love for those characters inside me that I love to lose myself in. And that's what it's about, right?
