hmm
okay so i will be honest, i have watched series 1 and 2 of bridgerton (im going to save series 3 until i’ve read the book) and i hated series 1. i had no love for it at all and its mostly because i didnt believe that simon and daphne had any chemistry (both as characters and the actors) so i was a bit apprehensive about this book.
i was pleased that simon and daphne had a lot of chemistry in the book, from the first time they meet their back and forth felt very real and genuine. they bond quite quickly and their arrangement was fun (i do wish we had a bit more of this as opposed to a quarter of the book, it was the main reason i was interested in reading it). i liked all of the other characters and there were some lovely scenes with all of the bridgerton siblings. i enjoyed the book to about the 70% mark and was considering giving it at least 3 stars.
then that scene happened and anything i enjoyed about the book went out of the window.
it was so disgustingly done i hated it. any kind of sympathy i had for daphne went out of the window. i no longer cared for her and i didn’t want to read any more about her. it was awful. there was no guilt, no remorse and were supposed to hate simon? the author really, REALLY, wanted us to understand the justification of the action and yet all it did was make me want to put the book down and walk away. i was horrified. it didn’t need to happen, none of the following chapters needed to happen and it didn’t need to end with daphne helping simon overcome his issues with his father. back off babe, if he wants to hate his dad for the rest of his life let him. ugh i was so angry. i didn’t think the last 20% of the book needed to be included, i was bored by the end of it.
i kind of wish i hadn’t bothered with this one in the end. it was fine but i can imagine, depending on how the others are, this will likely be my least favourite out of all of the bridgerton books
