The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz
2.0

2.5 stars. The entire book is predictable. So predictable, and from so early on, that I kept telling myself “nope, that’s way too obvious there’s no way that’s going to be the major ‘twists’ in this” I thought this about The Plot as well as Crib (Jake’s stolen book idea) and yep, nailed it all. I feel for the author because the whole point of this book is that Jake steals the idea for such a great plot that it’s basically set up to be the next Gone Girl or DaVinci Code level of success. I get that it can be hard to have such a buildup to some HUGE twist in a book that NOBODY saw coming and the whole world has stopped just to read this new novel… however… you gotta back it up. Crib (Jake’s stolen novel) was just meh and (again) predictable. Because of that, it then made the real novel The Plot extremely predictable which is never enjoyable as a reader. I had to finish this mostly because i didn’t want to be correct in my prediction and also I needed to see if Jake was just that oblivious to everything.
