A few words for myself to come back and look at later:
I LOVED the character growth in Chaol in this book. Just like Aelin in Heir of Fire, Chaol needed this time away to not just literally physically heal but emotionally heal too. He was a self-pitying man and it took someone as strong and stubborn as him to put him in his place to work through it and not put up with his bullshit.
I also really liked the setting, it reminded me of my time in Morocco (at least in my head from the description) so that personal connection to the story as well
I loveee the full circle moment when characters from earlier in the series make an appearance.
Just the world building in general, how everything is connected and tied together, how SJM came up with this story at such a young age blows my mind
I am SO glad I did the tandem-read with Empire of Storms. I think this book would have dragged for me compared to the others so having it go alongside EOS which has a bit more going on in terms of plot was helpful. All the books bounce between different POV’s so it was easy to feel as if both books were just one giant one
