The pacing felt a little off and there were large chunks of idle chatting that did nothing for the story itself. The more intense scenes felt rushed and glossed over. I loved the connection between Laurence and temeraire and just love the way he gets Laurence to question the meaning of things. I feel like there was a lot of just set up in this book so I have high hopes the second will be a little more rewarding.
