The Lies of Vampires and Slayers by K.M. Shea

3.0

3.5 Stars. While the Magiford Universe has definitely become one of my go-to comfort reads for when nothing else is really appealing to me, I would be the first to admit that the first books in the trilogies tend to be the most mediocre. This one was no exception, though I do appreciate the slight detour from the standard "it ends with one of them f#cking up and the other spending book 2 pi$sed at them" that developed in the previous series (though I suspect it was just delayed to the end of book 2 in this case).

Also, for a Very Very Old Vampire, Connor speaks too much like a Millennial for me to take his character seriously. Being adaptable is one thing, but vocal syntax is another, especially considering the reveal of when he was actually Turned. Cultured Calculating and (mostly) Ice Cold Killian - *significantly* younger and equally as adaptable - reads more like an old vampire than Connor, who comes of like a DudeBro in comparison.
