This is my second time around reading this series of books. This book is not nearly as faced paced as it's predecessor, but I believe that is an intentional choice by the author. I believe she wants the reader to feel just as caged as Luke Garner feels. For a while in the middle the book gets a little monotonous. I could've done without all of the chapters about Luke going out to his garden and all of that. But the book does really take off shortly after that when Luke discovers the other children in the woods. At time Luke is somewhat unlikeable. This book does not measure up to the first book in the series, "Among The Hidden," but it is still a good read.
