The Mothers by Brit Bennett

5.0

How does one choice you make at a young age effect the rest of your life?
The secret you thought you’ve been able to keep hidden seems to continue demanding attention and showing up when you least expect it.
This book pulled me in from the first page, was lyrical and beautiful and demanded my attention, which I happily gave.
It tells the story of Nadia Turner, from her teenage years when making a difficult choice, throughout her early twenties and telling the heartbreaking story of how that one choice she made as a teenager stayed with her and how it changed her path and the path of those around her.
I loved the complexities of all the characters, they each had their own story to tell and their own reasoning and justifications. You may not agree with what they did but the author wrote in such a way that you understood why. Their stories were heartbreaking, real, and honest.
