A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs
3.0
This was Edgar Rice Burroughs' first sci fi novel..and it unfortunately shows.
I've read most of the Tarzan stuff, and I think that they were better written. But by no means is this going to turn me off of the material. I expect to continue to read the Barsoom series, just as I hope that Disney continues to try and make it work in the cinemas (with luck, it will sell well on DVD, so they'll make a sequel).
So, all in all, good book if you can stand the writing style (a problem I have with 19th Cen authors of all stripes).
And of course, the film has only a passing similarity to the book...
