Time Was by Ian McDonald

The writing is BEAUTIFUL, I mean really sublimely penned, but the narrative was lacking for me. It didn’t quite live up to its premise of “gay time-travelers from WW2 searching for each other through the ages.” I mean, it was about that, yes... but it was more about the modern-day bookseller searching for *them* than the lovers searching for *each other.* In fact, the very characters the premise revolved around didn’t even spend much time in the story! Granted, it was a novella, but I think it would have done itself a greater service if it had been fleshed out as a novel, with a more accurate blurb on the back. I gave it some stars for the writing though.
