Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson

5.0

Stirring, moving, profound. Jeanette Winterson's writing is immaculate: so sharp, so clear. I loved the way Winterson approached her life story: it isn't that she doesn't take it seriously, but she's not solemn. Her writing is hilarious even as it is heartbreaking. She incorporates so many themes that we can see throughout her novels: the fluidity of time, family dysfunction, what it means to love and be loved - things that she thinks about constantly but usually works through by writing fiction. I can't recommend this one enough.
