Bayou Sweetheart
by Lexi Blake
Bayou Sweetheart was a story of life lessons, insecurities, and people's search for identity.
Major's controlling nature was frustrating, and even more frustrating was he had no idea he was being controlling. Major actually tried to do what HE thought was best for both Brynn and his father. What he couldn't seem to understand was their decisions weren't his to make.
I thought Brynn's mother Diane was a selfish person. Throughout the book, Brynn tries to make excuses for her mother's behavior, but they just didn't fly for me. Even when she did the right thing, it still felt like there was selfishness behind it.
I was glad when Brynn finally took a stand. It did make me wonder if that would have happened without the scandal making an appearance. Yet, it seemed to be a gradual transition after her initial meeting with Major.
Although the subject matter may sound heavy, there were many lighthearted, humorous moments. The narration was well done and entertaining. There were romantic and steamy moments. Then there was an HEA all the way around. A 4.5 star read.
