The Girl Next Door by Cecilia Vinesse

3.0

Not entirely sure how I feel about this book and I did almost DNF. I don’t think the fake dating trope is ever really done well so it just fell a little flat for me, there was not much interesting happening ever, I hated Daniel, didn’t care about kiki, she was irrelevant. I liked Marianne as a character but she was hard to unpack, never really knew if she was staying or going.

The ending conflict almost made me DNF, and then throw up in that order. Cleo was extremely unlikeable towards the end, she destroyed near enough every relationship in her life and it’s quite frankly frustrating how easily they were mended, just by her saying sorry when it was convenient for her. All in all it was okay.

‘The song flows into the chorus, and the room transforms again. It’s a Hollywood studio. It’s a mountain peak. There’s a beat, a breath, and then, right on cue—a cue they’ve both known was coming—the girls do the thing they’ve been waiting for. They take a step toward each other.’

‘Another feather-thin crack between us. The faintest stream of light.’
