For some reason, I went into this book thinking that Amy Tan was going to be applying her backyard observations to the natural world around us and how we're all connected. Instead we received a handful of bird facts written within journal entries that detailed her theories/questions resulting in a fairly dull read. Overall I would've preferred this book to have been made up of only the handwritten journal pages and illustrations.
