Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn
4.0

What a page turner! It was kind of a Roman soap opera, but I was entranced. But were the Romans so blood thirsty? I guess I’ll have to trust the author’s research on that issue, and all the rest for that matter. Were the characters believable? No, but it made for a good story. For example, given the state of medical care in this time period (100 a.d. or so) was it even possible for a fighter to have a sword pierce his shoulder (come out the other side) and a week or so later be alive and looking forward to the next fight?
