The Island by Victoria Hislop

I liked this book so much more than I expected. I don't read historical fiction often, or at all really, and I received this book as a gift from a friend who's from Crete. It's not a book I would have picked out myself, but I was curious because I visited Crete just last year and well, if my friend gave it to me, I must at least give it a chance. And I was not disappointed! I thought it was a touching story against an interesting time period. I knew next to nothing about leprosy, and although I wouldn't call myself an expert now, I know more than I did before. The only thing I didn't like so much was the present-day story, it lacked depth and I don't think it adds much to the book. Still, I could hardly put the book down. I have some other historical fiction books lined up to read now, thanks to this one.
