This book was painful to slog through. If you like philosophy and detailed descriptions of planets, this book is for you. The overall format reminds me of a textbook or other scientific journal where there are little data dumps all over the place breaking up the main story arc. Unfortunately, you need to read them to understand what's going on.

There is a scene early on in the book describing a 31 day journey through a tunnel and you feel like you've been on every boring day of the trip with them. I found the characters disturbing, hard to bond with and a little unsettling.
