The First to Die at the End by Adam Silvera

5.0

Adam Silvera, I am under your bed. I want to start this by saying that maybe I am biased because They Both Die at the End if my favorite book of the year for 2022 making this my most anticipated read of the year. I was really nervous that I had built it up in my head and that I would be constantly comparing it to the first but it met every expectation that I had. It definitely did not his as hard as TBDATE but I feel like that was so special and I connected so so much to Matteo that I didn't think this would. I will come out and say that the ending got me. I sobbed. I had a few theories on what was going to transpire but I wasn't sure which one would so I wasn't sure it was going to get me but it did. I think what got me the most was seeing little Rufus and Matteo making an appearance and getting to see their families was just the cherry on top to this book. It was such a subtle nod at TBDATE without completely overtaking the story and I loved it. I loved Orion and Valentino. Is the story a little predictable and followed a similar format to TBDATE? Yes. However, I think with this kind of scenario it has to. It was written so well and I ate it up so quickly that I had to force myself to take breaks so that it would last longer. I truly love this book and I look forward to more books in this universe from Adam. I truly think he is one of my favorite authors. The way he sets a scene and really taps into the emotions of the characters and how the reader will perceive them is incredible and I look forward to continuing this journey with him.
