The Family Game by Catherine Steadman
3.0

Harriet “Harry” Reed is a successful author - and now she’s engaged to Edward Halbeck.  The Halbeck family are well known billionaires.  And Harry has a secret.

The Halbecks may have their own secrets - and a penchant for games.

Will Harry find herself in a game where the prize is her secret being exposed - or even worse - her death?!?!

This book kept me engaged enough - but I also know never trust rich people in novels like this.  Especially when they invite you to a Krampus themed chase night without all the details.

Although the book relies heavily on some exposition from a tape Harry receives from Edward’s father, the magnate Robert Halbeck, it also requires some jumps in logic for the story to make sense.  But, nothing utterly unrealistic as I’ve seen in novels like this before.

It was interesting enough that I kept listening - and didn’t zone out during my commute.  There didn’t seem to be too much unnecessary padding - although the ending didn’t have as much impact or ooomph.  There also seemed to be certain aspects of the story that didn’t really fit into the entire arch.
