An Easy Death
by Charlaine Harris
Fun New Fantasy World
This is the first "Western" fantasy I've seen since the Devil's West series by Laura Anne Gilman (which I also liked). In this book, I thought Harris build a really creative world with some interesting twists. I liked the main characters and found the book fun to read. For me, the pace of the story worked: despite it being a "gunslinger" kind of novel, every scene isn't a fight scene (or a segue to a fight scene). It's more action-packed than Harris' Midnight Texas series, but doesn't build an ensemble cast like that series did: here, the main character is Gunnie Rose. While the end is satisfying (no cliff-hanger), there is a lot of room for the story to expand in later books.
