The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock

4.0

Quarantine means I blew through this novel. Pollock’s story feels like the love child of O’Connor and McCarthy, but without the deep consideration that the two authors carry in their written words. However, the brutality of The Devil All the Time yoked with the religious imagery was truly engrossing, and I found myself constantly wanting to figure out more, even though I knew the story from watching the movie prior to know it was a book. The imagery was clear throughout the novel, but I still wish the weight carried more than I feel it did.
