Babel by R.F. Kuang

5.0

This book has been very highly reviewed but even so I was blown away by the depth and complexity of the book. Kuang, clearly has a love of language (yes I looked at the bio after I started reading so I realize it's their thing) and I don't just mean from a prose standpoint. The magic system is fascinating and, dare I say it, unique.

The story is get in a closely adjacent enough to our history that a lot of parts are uncomfortable to read but that's a reason to read it and not to avoid it. Robin is a fascinating character and that's about all I can say without risking giving anything away.

Highly recommended but this is not a light nor fast read, so make sure you have the time to devote your attention to Babel before you start.
