Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

adventurous dark slow-paced

2.0

I found this book incredibly predictable, I called who “jack the ripper” was in the first 50 pages and was simply finished the book to prove that I was right. I found it fairly slow for a book like this. Audrey rose was kinda annoying but Tomas was a very fun character. I loved the images I’m the book, thought that was a very nice touch. Along with the professions that our main characters carry to be really fun and engaging.

Also there are parts in it that mention India, like at the circus and when eating dinner, but I’m not sure that she is Indian or her mother or grandmother is. But at this time it is 1888, India is under full control by the English (the East India Company) which is leading to the eradication of culture and white washing and actual Indians losing power in there own country and the white man taking over ALL of the government and not allowing the indian people any place in it. AND on top of that there is I’m assuming the Industrial Revolution which was very pivotal in indias history of fabric trade and cotton growth. England was able to weave fabrics faster through machinery and for cheaper than by actual fabric weavers which led to so many people in India losing jobs and having to leave there homes and towns to grow cotton instead of doing the actual talent that they had masterd. AND there was major ristricton of food to the indian people and the list will continue to go on because it is a horrible fact of the english colonisation! I just find it strange that if this is a white family that is using Indian culture its giving intensive and uneducated of what life was truly like . But if they are a mixed family, which was not uncommon for english colonisers to marry women of india, Still not mentioning the injustice and the power that the english held over there own people it just wild to me.... I just thought it was a very strange thing to bring up numerous times India and Indian heritage but not bring up the major issues at that time. But you know i could just be to woke for my own good 🤷🏼‍♀️
