Death of a Bookseller
by Alice Slater
How to simplify my thoughts on this multilayered story: “creepy”.
The electric undercurrent of suspense carries readers through lengthy prose on two girls who we both suspect are capable of murder. Unfortunately, the ending left me fizzled and then wanting more. I honestly thought this was more of a commentary on the death of the book industry during the first half. Then, it transformed into a feminist drama on thirst for violence and men’s voices in the true crime genre on top of their overwhelming dominance creating crime itself. Readers are left with more questions than answers and I’m curious if we will ever get a sequel or if the ending is a statement on crime itself?
