moogmiller 's review for:
The American Roommate Experiment
by Elena Armas
this would’ve been a dnf for me if i wasn’t reading it for book club. idk man just not my vibe like at all, it was a painful read for me.
- boring. so boring all the way thru
- rosie was so shy she couldn’t form words or even look at lucas at some points. i understand getting flustered but this bordered on socially unacceptable
- for how smooth lucas was they didn’t smooch until like 80% thru?
- we knew both of them had stuff going on (rosie’s brothers stuff, lucas’s surfing accident and career loss) but it all felt so surface level. there was no examination or break through on either front
- the dates he planned are honestly so outrageous and he’s like “your bar is too low” then is surprised she falls in love with him
- the whole “experimental dating” plot felt flimsy. she wrote her first (best selling) romance novel without any real life romance hero
- it felt like nothing happened. it was a whole book of them eating together and living as roommates and the only things they did were the dates
