We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

4.0

Merricat is a 18 year old living with her sister and her Uncle. She comes from a wealthy family that has suffered a major loss. The villagers don't like her and she is a bit of an odd egg.

I know that I have enjoyed a book when at the end I want to discuss the symbolism, the themes, the ideas behind the book. I loved that my kindle edition had an afterword that did this to some extent and I learnt more about the author as well.

I don't do well with horrors as I tend to immerse myself in a book, and this was more gothic than horror so I found I was okay reading it. I'm looking forward to reading it again and keeping in mind all the little things I may have missed the first time I read it.
