Peter and the Shadow Thieves by Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson

5.0

I absolutely adore this book, great plot, nice "updated" take on the Peter Pan story and adventures. As this is book 2, it does help if you have picked up the first one, but it is actually okay on it's own, as they do some exposition in places, but without spoiling the rollicking pace of the story.

Peter is struggling with not growing up, as the lost boys and Molly do, but Tinkerbell has no problems with the situation and makes a great foil for Peter. The plot revolves around Peter finding out the "others" (including dangerous and shadowy Lord Ombra) are after the star stuff and thus Molly and Lord Astor as well. Peter has to find a way to get to London without being seen, and then find the people when he has no idea where he is! Good adventure over all.

I like the references to the original story. I wonder if the Saint Bernard we see is a reference to Nana. We do meet George Darling. And I think the second path to the right, straight on to the lighted house, might be a veiled reference to straight on until morning. :)

BTW, I do think it adds something if you listen to it on audio book. My version had a great reader, who did wonderful voices with accents that really enhanced the experience!
