Hosseini is a gifted storyteller; he proved that with A Thousand Splendid Suns. However, And The Mountains Echoed falls short of this gift. He has a lot of main and side characters whose entwining lives doesn't give the effect he had hoped it would. Instead, it results in jumbled up stories and characters who have been somehow made to fit together. It doesn't have an ending that would make you cherish the book, because due to the magnitude of the people involved, it is abrupt and looks incomplete. Not what I had expected when I began. Disappointed.
