Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb

5.0

Eve's best friend Mavis is set up for murder in this book. Eve has the hard task of having to arrest her friend knowing that Mavis is innocent. Now she just has to prove it? There is a new drug being developed that is highly addictive and is poisonous over a period of time. 3 bodies have all been found murdered and have the same new drug in there system. Eve believes that it is Jerry, Young and Redman that killed Pandora because she wanted the drug all to herself to sell but Eve's judgement isnt right in this case. She is trying to prove her friend Mavis didn't do it and in doing so misses the real killer who is closer to her than she thought.

Spoiler Alert

Castro is a lieutenant from the illegals division. He has himself put onto the case with Eve. He starts to get close to Peabody who makes a great alibi for him. He knew about the drug and was the one who got Pandora involved. She tells a few others about it which Castro doesn't like so he kills her and sets Mavis up for the fall. He thinks he can use his sex appeal to win over Dallas but when she isn't interested he moves to her aid Peabody. He was trying to get all the information about the case from her. He knows that Eve thinks that Jerry killed Pandora so he uses that knowledge and makes it look like Jerry overdoses in the mental hospital when in fact he kills her. With Jerry dead the cases are deemed closed but Eve still has this feeling that they aren't. Roarke agrees with her and it is only when Castro shows up at Eve's bachelor party that Eve pieces together everything. Castro manages to drug her but in the end Eve overpowers him and he is arrested.

This book is great but there is still one question that remains unanswered. Do Eve and Roarke get married?
